Lodging, Meals and Travel
IMPORTANT! Please ensure that your return your Participant Data Sheet and a short bio to Captain Jason Galui. If you are making your own plane reservations, please ensure we have the flight data so we can coordinate your ground transportation. The data sheet helps us smoothly coordinate the conference logistics, and ensures the accuracy of your professional and biographical data in the conference handbook. Some personal data is required by government regulations that govern the funding of the conference. All personal data will be kept strictly confidential and will not be shared. Should you have any questions about any logistical matter, you may contact:
Biography Please fax (845-938-4563) or email a short bio to MAJ Paul Oh as soon as possible to facilitate the preparation and printing of the conference handbook.
Lodging The Department of Social Sciences will reserve a hotel room for all participants at the Thayer Hotel or the Five Star Inn, both located on the United States Military Academy (USMA) reservation. For those participants whose agencies are funding their participation, you may pay for your room at the front desk when you arrive, or reimburse us with a check made out to "MAC Gift Fund." A member of the Department of Social Sciences faculty will be in the lobby of the Hotel Thayer to greet you, provide you with the conference materials, and answer any questions, beginning at noon, June 1. Should the conference material be ready prior to June 1, we will post all materials on this website.
Transportation Please plan to arrive at West Point no later than 5:00 pm on Thursday, May 28, 2009. Please plan to depart West Point after 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2009. Driving For those driving to West Point, click here for directions and maps. For those who have requested that the Department of Social Sciences fund their travel, you will be reimbursed by check at the rate of 55 cents per mile, plus any tolls incurred while traveling. Flying The three closest airports are: LaGuardia (New York; 75 minute drive); Kennedy (New York; 90 minute drive); and Newark (Newark, NJ; 75 minute drive). Times depend on traffic. To minimize your travel time from the airport to West Point, we recommend you plan your arrival flight to arrive at the airport prior to 2:00 p.m. Traffic is normally light on Saturday afternoon; we recommend you book your flight to depart no earlier than 3:30 p.m. For those whose agencies are funding their travel, your agency can book your own flight or Captain Jason Galui can book the flight and your agency can pay for the reservation. For those who have requested that the Department of Social Sciences fund their travel, Captain Galui will book and pay for the flight. Whether or not we make your air reservations, it is important that we have your flight information so we can coordinate your ground transportation to and from the airport. Train Take the train to New York Grand Central Station, then the Metro-North railroad to Garrison, NY. You can take a taxi from Garrison to West Point (about 15-20 minutes). The taxi service does not normally meet all the trains, however, if you call ahead with your arrival time, they will meet you at the station. You can reach the taxi company at Bynum Taxi, (914) 737-3753. Meals The Department of Social Sciences will provide all of your meals for the duration of the conference. For those participants whose agencies are funding their participation, you can reimburse us for meals with a check made out to "MAC Gift Fund."
